The story
Painted as you go.
When the story moves somewhere new, the scene is painted again, and the people you meet arrive with portraits.
Agendas
Everyone has a life and something they’re after, and they go after it whether you’re looking or not.
Events
Threads pay off, journeys arrive, what’s happening elsewhere catches up with you, woven into the story as it goes.
Calendar
Holidays come round, birthdays add a year, and every date the story sets arrives on the day. Nothing promised gets forgotten.
Sidekicks
Cornelius has opinions. Pippa has theories. Both have read every word.
Also: Choices, three ways forward when you’re stuck · Pace, stay in the moment, skip ahead, or push on with a twist · Appearance, portraits keep up with new hairstyles, clothes, scars and the years.
Your own world
Or talk one through.
Cornelius or Pippa asks what you want, and builds the world from your answers: its people, its places, and who you are in it.
In the app, you write your own answers and keep talking for as long as you like.
Questions
What is Task & Tale?
A to-do list that writes a story with you. Every real-life task you finish earns a Post Token, and each token lets you write the next line of an AI-written roleplaying story and get the next passage back.
Do I need an account?
No. One click starts you as a guest. Sign up later and everything you’ve made comes with you.
Is it free?
Yes. Task & Tale is in alpha and free to use, with a daily limit on how much story you can write. Alpha testers have no daily limits, and you can ask for a place from Settings.
What counts as a task?
Anything you’d put on a to-do list, big or small. You decide what counts.
Do I have to pick one of your worlds?
No. Talk one through with Cornelius or Pippa and they build it from your answers, take one another reader has shared, or skip them all and write the world yourself in the Story Bible.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in your phone’s browser, and you can add it to your home screen.
Can I keep what I write?
Yes. Save the whole tale or just the world as a file, or download the story as plain text.
What if English isn’t my first language?
There’s a dictionary that explains any word in the story in your own language.
